It is always a great time of year to make homemade playdough, especially the cooked variety because there are few things more soothing than kneading, rolling, and smushing fresh, warm playdough.

The recipe below is simple to make and the playdough will keep for up to two weeks in a sealed plastic container or plastic storage bag.

1 cup white flour

1/2 cup salt

2 tablespoons cream of tartar (spice aisle)

1 tablespoon cooking oil

1 cup water

Mix first four ingredients in a cooking pan. Add water and mix well. Cook over medium heat for 3-5 minutes, stirring constantly. Dough will become difficult to stir and form a clump. Remove from stove and knead on a flat surface for 5 minutes. Add the food coloring during the kneading process. Add cinnamon or any dry spice to the first dry ingredients for a wonderful scented experience.
